Kerala Folklore Museum Kochi

Kerala Folklore Museum, is one of Kerala’s most captivating heritage destinations. Founded in 2009 by cultural enthusiast George Thaliath, the museum serves as a treasure trove of traditional arts, folk culture, and antique craftsmanship. Designed in traditional Kerala architectural styles—Malabar, Cochin, and Travancore—the building itself is an exhibit of artistic excellence, constructed using the remains of more than 60 demolished temples and ancient mansions.

Inside the museum, visitors can explore over 4,000 rare artifacts including tribal sculptures, folk musical instruments, traditional dance costumes, wooden carvings, stone-age utensils, and ancient manuscripts. Each floor of the three-storey museum offers a unique experience—the ground floor displays ritual arts like Theyyam and Kathakali, while the upper floors showcase murals, antique furniture, and a performance theatre for live cultural shows. The Folklore Theatre regularly hosts traditional performances, making it a hub for immersive cultural experiences.

Beyond its visual richness, the museum promotes Kerala’s heritage through curated tours, a heritage café, and a souvenir shop. It is a must-visit for anyone interested in Indian folklore, classical arts, and cultural storytelling, blending education with artistic inspiration.
