Palaruvi Waterfalls, meaning “Stream of Milk,” is a scenic 300-foot waterfall located in Aryankavu, Kollam district of Kerala. Set amidst dense tropical forests and misty hills, it is a tranquil retreat known for its milky white appearance and medicinal properties.
Palaruvi Waterfalls is one of Kerala’s most picturesque waterfalls, plunging from a height of around 300 feet into a natural pool surrounded by lush greenery. Located in the forested hills of Aryankavu in Kollam district, the waterfall gets its name from its milky stream-like appearance – ‘Palaruvi’ meaning ‘milky stream’ in Malayalam. The falls are believed to have Ayurvedic healing properties, drawing both nature lovers and wellness seekers.
The journey to Palaruvi involves a drive through the scenic Aryankavu Pass and Shendurney Wildlife Sanctuary, offering stunning views of the Western Ghats. A short forest walk from the parking area leads to the base of the falls. The surrounding area is ideal for picnics, nature photography, and peaceful walks.
Palaruvi is best visited during the monsoon and post-monsoon months, from June to January, when the waterfall is in full flow. Entry is regulated by the Forest Department to ensure visitor safety and environmental conservation. Swimming is permitted in the shallow areas during safe flow levels.
